Wayne, Holmes, & Stark county Resource Guide for Adults
As an adult, one may be in very different stages of life than other adults. There is no designated timeline for adults to find love, get married, get jobs, start careers, or have children. It is, however, these life-changing decisions come up and it is during your adult development stages. The developmental stage for being an adult can be confusing and full of decisions, but some theories might help us understand the developmental stages of adulthood. There are many theories that try and define adult development like Erikson, who has eight stages over a person’s life cycle. Erikson’s stages referring to adulthood are intimacy vs. isolation, generativity vs. stagnation, and wisdom vs. despair (Tisdell & Palmer, 2018). The idea is each individual will build on these traits. Some may struggle and have tension in these stages, but the hope is that in early adulthood one would understand intimacy, in mid-life one would grow in generativity, and in older adulthood, one would have greater wisdom (Tisdell & Palmer, 2018). This is just one theory, but it has been a building block for other theories. Understanding what may be going on unconsciously and internally can be a helpful tool. Often times adults struggle with these changes and need outside resources to help them on their journey.
While resources for children, adolescents, or the elderly are clear and easily recognizable, it can be hard for adults to seek resources specifically for them. In this binder, one will be able to easily find recourses for clinical mental health resources, general wellness resources, creative and expressive services, as well as resources specifically for addiction and veterans.

Clinical Mental Health Services
Mental health is a topic that is so important, but often those seeking help face stigma. Stigma is someone or oneself having a negative view of a person affected by a mental health concern. Mental health concerns are more common than thought to be. The Counseling Center of Wayne and Holmes Counties mental health facts include:
1 in 5 (46.6 million) adults in the United States experience a mental health condition in a given year.

Approximately 46.6 million adults in the United States face the reality of managing a mental illness every day.
Half of all lifetime mental health conditions begin by age 14 and 75% by age 24, but early intervention programs can help.
Up to 90% of those who die by suicide have an underlying mental illness as revealed by psychological autopsy. 46% of those who die by suicide have a diagnosed mental illness.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. With effective care, suicidal thoughts are treatable, and suicide is preventable.
Individuals with mental health conditions face an average 11-year delay between experiencing symptoms and starting treatment.
Common barriers to treatment include the cost of mental health care and insurance, prejudice and discrimination, and structural barriers like transportation.
Even though most people can experience relief from symptoms and support for their recovery in treatment, less than half of the adults in the United States get the help they need.

Agency Visit Post-Interview
Agency: NAMI Wayne and Holmes Counties: MOCA House
Location/Address: 2525 Back Orrville Rd. Wooster, Ohio
Clinician/Interviewee: Jackie Hunter
Population/ Developmental age: Ages 19 and older
Date Visited/Called: June 26, 2019
Summary:
MOCA house is a facility that allows those with mental illness to come together and work together to reduce isolation but also the stigma that comes with mental health concerns. Jackie is the manager of MOCA and works hard for the members to provide anything they need to help them succeed.
What are the specific services provided?
Some services provided at MOCA House are many groups that members can attend, peer support, NAMI outreach, and educational programs for families and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). They provide family to family which is a support group for friends and family of persons affected with mental illness. They also have volunteers and speakers come to talk to members. They provide free transportation, health, and wellness programs, as well as expressive activities. They also offer meals every Friday and snacks throughout the week. They can recommend counseling through ANAZO, The Counseling Center, and OneEighty.
What characteristics are unique about the agency or the services provided related to the developmental level?
For this population isolation is one big issue, MOCA house helps those suffering from mental illness come together, socialize, and cultivate friendships. While there are facilities specific to helping children, adolescents, or older adults, MOCA house helps adults specifically and this provides good peer to peer experiences.
What accommodations are implemented to meet the needs of the specific developmental level?
They provide a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) training and support which is a program of recovery for persons with mental illness. They help members plan for crisis and awareness. NAMI suicide prevention also helps this population by giving them resources and also groups that help those affected by suicide. They again provide family support but also help members find housing, with resumes, job finding, and overall help with any needs.
Discuss all other relevant information about your visit and interview.
The facility is free of charge and runs on grants and community members as well as the volunteers that help run events and classes. They also have fundraisers like Walk for Wellness and pizza sales. There is also an Annual Gathering that has speakers and rewards for all that are involved.
