I am not one who likes labels, and I would say personality test might be helpful, but not definitive. I would get so frustrated in my undergrad when people labeled someone as extroverted or introverted and put people in little boxes. I think people are too unique to place an ordinary label to define someone. While saying this I also believe personality tests can be very helpful and fun. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) self-report inventory designed to identify personality types, strengths, and preferences. You can find more information about MBTI here: (MBTI).

I like MBTI because there are 16 different personality types and while I am sure some might be more than one or might not fit perfectly in a section, I find mine to be quite accurate. ESFJ is one of the personality types that tend to be outgoing, loyal, organized, and tender-hearted. When taking my test, I sat more on the extroverted side, but not definitely and enjoyed the flexibility of MBIT.

Extraverted, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging (ESFJ) which are the caregivers. The strengths are being kind, loyal, outgoing, organized, practical, dependable, and enjoy helping others. The weaknesses include being needy, approval-seeking, and sensitive to criticism. I laugh thinking about how accurate these are and really explain how I respond to things. Some popular careers for this personality type are childcare, teaching, social work, counseling, and office manager. COUNSELOR! Whew glad I fit the mark! I do feel connected to the personality type of ESFJ and how they might interact with friendships, parenting, and relationships.

  • Tend to make decisions based on personal feelings, emotions, and concerns for others.

  • Tend to judge on "gut feelings."Making snap decisions and quick to share feelings and opinions.

  • Tend to focus on the present and are interested in concrete details rather than abstract.

  • Able to find creative solutions to problems.

  • Able to explore possibilities when looking at a situation and able to find patterns that allow them to gain insights into people and experiences.

  • Organized and like to plan things out.

  • Tends to love spending time with other people.

  • Described as warm-hearted and empathetic.

  • Tend to typically feel insecure in situations where things are uncertain or chaotic.

  • Tend to be devoted, supportive, and loyal.

So now you have learned a little bit more about my personality type. I found reviewing these personality characteristics fun and curious about how they relate to anyone. I recommend everyone take this test and see if you agree with it or not. You might learn about yourself or at least have fun similarly to me.
